Philippe SOUPAULT (1892-1990)
A manuscript and a letter. A signed autograph manuscript of two pages in 4, on ruled paper, purple ink, some erasures and corrections. Very important manuscript about the Italian painter, sculptor and writer Ugo ATTARDI (1923-2006). Commendation review entitled "The Attardi Mystery". "A universe that no sculptor, painter or engraver had ever forced us to discover. Who should be chosen as a guide? Is it first of all the sculptor, who exalts the human body and metamorphoses? Is this hell or purgatory? It's a world you can only travel through by keeping your distance. Indeed, Attardi is what you might call a magician, in the medieval sense of the word. He is capable of disturbing as well as fascinating. It is not surprising if the lucid but lyrical sculptor was able to guess that in a country still little known, Somalia, he recognized "such beautiful and perfect creatures", models that he magnified by conferring on them the mystery of an incomparable beauty...After this discovery of bodies and masks, thanks to his paintings Attardi takes us into a universe of flame...Attari shows a certain preference for masks. Unforgettable faces. The colour radiates, it dazzles, it bursts... it is that Attardi's art is (comparable, word scratched, replaced by) like no other...so what is Attardi's secret? It is himself who delivered it to us by writing this dazzling book: The Selvaggio Era...". Autograph letter signed on one page in-8 oblong, October 31, 1979. To a friend, sends him a photocopy of a letter he had received from C. Costa, and he receives a flyer from that publishing house, asks him what he thinks. "You can send your collections to Bernard Delvaille, Seghers editions... I loved Venice, but I haven't forgotten Rome..."
