Paris, à la Librairie Illustrée (1883); two volumes, in-12, modern blue cloth, title-piece, illustrated covers on first board in colour. Includes two frontispieces, six chapter headings and 14 unpublished hors-texte plates in black, some drawings inspired by the first edition. 368 and 380 pages (foxing). Attached to the copy are seven beautiful pen and ink drawings, one signed and three of his ini- tials, drawings used to illustrate this new edition, drawn on five bristol boards, two of which are illustrated with two drawings each (24x15 cm), drawings with annotations for the reduction to book size. Volume one: three drawings to illustrate the cover vignette and the title page, one at the head of the chapter "Le roi des singes" and one off-text (page 36-37) "Le rempart de tortues". Volume two : four drawings on two boards. Vignette to illustrate the cover and the title page and an in-text from page 72. One at the head of the chapter of the second part "The two Americas" and the one at the head of the third part "Across Africa".
