Fort in-folio (36x27 cm). VIII, 565 pages-(1) 43 original photographs mounted, framed with chromolithographs or woodcuts, numerous illustrations, framed text. Bound in beveled wood boards, dressed in brown embossed leather, framed on the first board with decorative ironwork and a portrait of Friedrich Schiller in a gilt medallion, on black velvet, spine with embossed title and gilt ironwork with the date of 1859, moiré endpaper (a few chips and tears), gilt edges (spines split at the head and foot of the first board, top cover removed). A luxury publication and the first example of photography in German book illustration. This work was published on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of Schiller's birth
