ECOLE FLAMANDE première Moitié du XVIIe siècle
Portrait of the wife of the emperor Caligula Oil on copper (small restorations). Annotated in the upper part in Latin in capital letters: "CAESONIA CAESAR/CALIGULAE VXOR". 21 x 15 cm Caesonia Milonia, born at the beginning of the Christian era, was the fourth wife of the emperor Gaius Caligula. She died the same day as him, murdered, in Rome, on the Palatine Mount, on January 24, 41. Suetonius draws the portrait of her as a "deeply corrupted, sensual and debauched woman" (XXIV), whom her husband did not hesitate to show naked to his friends
