Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899) Bull Bronze with light brown patina. Signed " Rosa B " on the terrace. H. 17,5 cm terrace 27 x 11 cm (Some wear to the patina) Famous animal painter, Rosa Bonheur is also famous for her sculptures which she produced until the 1850s. Trained by her father and Léon Cogniet, she particularly appreciated the domestic animals seen at fairs. The great majority of her sculptures were produced in bronze by the founder Hippolyte Peyrol (1856-1929), the husband of Juliette Bonheur, the artist's younger sister.
