MANUSCRIT. [Siege and Commune of Paris 1870- 1871]. 19th century manuscript of 98 pages in two distinct parts signed, from September 19, 1870 to March 3, 1871 and from March 18, 1871 to May 30, 1871. Half brown percaline 19th century in-8 (22x17,5 cm). First part signed L. Galland, diary kept day by day of the siege of Paris by the Germans, told by a young girl named Elise Galland (called Lala). She tells with a lot of details her daily life, as well as the entry of the Prussians in Paris. The diary of the second part, signed by Hippolyte Galland, a soldier of the 129th battalion of Montmartre, describes day by day the rebellion of the Parisians against the government of Adolphe Thiers, the first barricades in Montmartre, the burning monuments, the deaths in the streets... The organized fire which in this 8 days battle, came to give to the fight a character of unheard of ferocity, left in Paris terrible traces..." Pinned to the blank page of the manuscript are several original documents: a lodging ticket from the 18th arrondissement of Paris, a military requisition for Galland, two German passes from 1871 for Blois, two butcher's cards and a pass from the city of Blois.
