Large SMYRNE RUG in wool velvet on wool foundation. Beige field decorated with a large central medallion featuring a geometrically stylized diamond-shaped floral bulb and salmon-pink turtle shell, framed by two polychrome palmettes. Four spandrels with original salmon-pink and ivory floral compositions. Three borders, the main one salmon-pink with interlacing bulbs and geometrically stylized foliage in brick-red, almond green, beige and salmon-pink. (Some natural wear and oxidation, stains and frayed endings). Turkey, Asia Minor, late 19th century. 400 x 310 cm
