HOLBEIN (Hans) La Danse des morts drawn by Hans Holbein, engraved on stone by Joseph Schlotthauer, explained by Hippolyte Fortoul. Paris, Jules Labitte, no date (1842) small in-12 (15x11.5 cm), contemporary half calf (rubbed). 252 pages and 53 hors-texte plates. Long study by Fortoul, followed by a facsimile reproduction of the titles and epithets of Les simulacres de la mort after the first edition in Lyon in 1538, and of the index titles, epigrams and 53 figures by Hans Holbein the Younger, finely lithographed on chine applied to vellum, after the woods of the 6th edition in Basel in 1554.
